Football migranti: Immobile strikes again, Pellé' Southampton can't stop winning
Ciro scored his first goal in Bundesliga vs Stuttgart, while Graziano Pellé and his team - Saints - are living a daydream after a nightmarish summer
by Anthony Pepe
Ciro Immobile; Borussia Dortmund vs Stuttgart 2-2. Immobile is starting to settle into life with Der BVB and followed up his fantastic goal against Arsenal with the goal to save a point for Dortmund. Dortmund have not been firing on all cylinders yet this season and with midfielders like Marco Reus missing and Kagawa still re-acclimatising the service to Immobile has not been perfect. However, he was found at the back post from a cross from a set piece by Schmelzer and Ciro was lurking behind the goalkeeper to tuck it away. He has had to come deep to get the ball a lot in these early stages of the season, but when Dortmund’s midfield finds its coherence again, one can imagine Immobile getting many more goals.

Mario Balotelli; Liverpool vs Middlesbrough 2-2. The EPL took a break from the League, allowing a round of midweek Capital One Cup fixtures. This trophy is rarely a priority for the big English clubs and consequently Balotelli started the game on the bench; he was brought on in the 74th minute with Liverpool searching for a winner, but again looked like he didn’t quite fit into the attacking set-up and is still looking for a first domestic goal for Liverpool after opening his UCL account against Ludogorets. The game went to an extraordinary penalty shoot-out which Liverpool won 14-15; Mario had to take two penalties and scored both.

Alessio Cerci; Almería vs Atlético de Madrid 0-1. Cerci is yet to start for his new club Atlético, relegated to the final half-hour of games until coach Diego Simeone believes he is integrated. Joining on deadline day will mean that it will still be some time until he takes either Raúl García’s place behind Arda Turan or Raúl Jiménez’s spot on the right wing. Atléti fans have been calling to see more minutes from Alessio, but understand that dropping points is not an option for championship contenders in La Liga and are willing to wait. Cerci managed to sting the Almería goalkeeper’s palms with a shot in the final minutes of the game.

Salvatore Sirigu, Thiago Motta; Caen vs PSG 0-2. Marco Verratti signed a new contract with PSG last week, tying him to the club until 2019, but was rested for the midweek fixture. Sirigu had an excellent game, shutting out the numerous shots taken by Caen, especially two long-range screamers. Thiago Motta also played the full game.

Graziano Pellé; Arsenal vs Southampton 1-2. Pellé’s Southampton can’t stop winning and they continued their good form to knock Arsenal out of the Capital One Cup. Pellé is starting to look at home as the target man with two or three other attackers constantly buzzing around him and linked up well with his teammates once again; the Saints fans are pleased with their summer business after having felt earlier like their team had collapsed and Pellé is a part of that success.
