The irony of fate: Pippo Inzaghi doesn't need forwards. Talking points from the 2nd matchday
Milan scored 5 goals without a real centre-forward, but their defensive amnesias are something they have to work on. Sassuolo is allergic to Inter: they were buried by the Nerazzurri once again. Nainggolan was the saviour of a pale Roma

Roma and Juventus keep yatching at the top of the table. There's another vessel to keep them company: Milan, a bunch of pirates able to score 8 goals and concede 5 in two games.

Inter, Sassuolo and the magic number 7. Milan and Inter fans certainly didn't get bored yesterday, as they had the chance to watch 16 goals overall. Like one year ago, Inter dismantled Sassuolo for 7-0, the only difference was the home factor, as the Nerazzurri played at San Siro this time. Not even the most optimist Inter fan could imagine a better home debut. It seems that Icardi has finally returned to be the amazing forward we admired when he played for Sampdoria, while Kovačić and Hernanes (especially the Croatian) explained us why Mazzarri counts so much on them for a successful season. Kovačić has been praised by WM for his defensive effort more than for his assists. If you want to be a regular under Mazzarri, you have to be a complete player, exactly what the Croatian young star is becoming.

No forward, but it's ok for Pippo. Can you score 5 goals without a single forward in your starting eleven? The answer is yes, if the case in question is Milan. The late injury of Fernando Torres forced mister Pippo Inzaghi to deploy an uncommon attacking trio against Parma: Bonaventura on the left, Honda on the right and Jeremy Menez as false nine. Actually, the Frenchman made a fantastic wide-ranging performance. He created dangers from both the flanks and even in a more backward position, in the trequartista zone. Menez finished the game with an astonishing 96% of passes completed and scored a double, the second was a classic mad-man improvisation (watch the goal). Inzaghi said that he "cannot reproach" his players, who have been "fantastic". Maybe, Inzaghi should blame his players for the shocking amnesias and the recurring drops of concentration, as they conceded four goals to Parma. Cassano, just to make an example, was left totally free to take aim and hit with a header. And we are not talking about a beanpole.

Nainggolan, then nothing. Roma and Juventus secured three points in their Saturday games, but while Juventus prevailed over Udinese without stress the Giallorossi showed some alarming signs. Garcia's men enormously suffered Empoli's pressing in the first half and seemed distracted in the second one as they made too many trivial errors. Empoli never created a serious goal-chance but if Nainggolan hadn't tried that long-distance shot - deflected by Empoli's keeper Sepe into the net - the game had ended with a clean sheet, even if the teams would have played for three hours more. Nainggolan's form was astonishing as he sustained Roma's midfield on his shoulders and invented some through balls that his team-mates barely exploited. The Indo-Belgian it's absolutely crucial for Roma in this period and he should be an undisputed starter in the Wednesday Champions League debut vs CSKA Moscow. The alarming bells came from Ashley Cole and Mattia Destro. The ex Chelsea still seems a foreign body in Roma's machinery and it's too shy, while Destro chanced upon one of his bad days, when his participation to the game is almost null. Garcia and Roma fans have to hope it was just a single day.
