FIFA have just unveiled the 32 winners of their latest “Be there with Hyundai” contest, in which fans could propose a catchy phrase for each of the 32 national teams’ buses. It took one million votes from all over the world to select the 32 winning slogans out of the 160,000 submissions.

We have tradition and myth (Algeria- Desert Warriors in Brazil, Cameroon- A lion remains a lion, Greece- Heroes play like Greeks), humor (Netherlands- Real men dress orange), inspiration (Argentina- Not just a team, we are a country), optimism (Portugal- The past is history, the future is victory), over-optimism (Australia- Socceroos: hopping our way into history!) unjustified optimism (Switzerland- Final stop: 07-13-14 Maracana!), and…realism (South Korea- Enjoy it, reds!).

The World Champions of Spain decided to remind us all: Inside our hearts, the passion of a champion. Italy’s slogan is a very simple Coloriamo d’azzurro il sogno Mondiale (Let’s paint the FIFA World Cup dream blue), whilst Brazilian fans voted for a rather cocky Brace yourselves! The 6th is coming! I wonder if anyone there remembers what happened in 1950, when Brazilians were celebrating the Cup before even playing the final game vs. Uruguay. In Italy we’d be knocking on wood…
