New FIGC president Tavecchio calls for unity
With a majority of 63%, Carlo Tavecchio is the new president of FIGC, the Italian football federation. Tavecchio has divided Italian football with some allegedly racist statements, losing the support of Juventus, Roma, Sampdoria, Torino, Sassuolo and other Serie A clubs. The 71-year old former president of the LND (the amateur association), called for unity: "Let's change calcio together: no more divisions, I'll be the president of everyone. I want to thank who supported me in the most difficult moments, but I also thank the ones who expressed their disagreement".
