Serie A stadiums attendances drop but Inter, Napoli and Fiorentina reverse the trend
Stadiums in Italy attract less and less people. Compared to the past season, attendances dropped almost by a 4%. But some clubs are living a renaissance
Inter, Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina's stadium audiences boost, while the Serie A average has a
3,8% decrease. At the end of the 17th matchday the average audience in the Serie A stadiums was
23.782 people, while at the end of the past season was at 24.655. It is the second worst performance in the last five years. Compared to the 2009-2010 season, the decrease reaches
an alarming -7,6%.
Despite having closed the transfer market without any new top player,
Inter fans demonstrated to believe in Mazzarri's project: the average attendance in the current season was of 52.038 fans (+10,5% compared to the past season), while
Napoli's tifosi got behind Cavani's departure to PSG embracing the new era of Rafa Benitez (and Gonzalo Higuain). San Paolo stadium has had 7,1% more fans than the past season. We cannot say
Roma's tifosi can't forgive: after the awful past season and the defeat in the Coppa Italia final against the rivals of Lazio, giallorossi's fans increased by a 3,7%.
Milan crisis is not only about the results:
rossoneri's home games have been watched by 36.741 fans on average. That means that the average
attendance has decreased by a -18,8% compared to the past season.
These data seem to contradict the statistics about the
season ticket sells: at the 15th of August 28.000 season ticket more were sold in Serie A than the previous season.
Fiorentina had the best performance with 10.000
abbonati more. And, thanks to the beautiful playing style imposed by Vincenzo Montella, Fiorentina had an impressive improvement in the average attendance so far: +20%. But other clubs had a discrepancy: four months ago Milan celebrated the 6000 season tickets plus sold, but in the meanwhile,
who is not a subscriber deserted San Siro stadium, because the balance sheet is in red.
Juventus keeps being the main attraction all around Italy, even among the opposite teams' fans. When the Bianconeri went to Bergamo (against Atalanta), Verona (against Chievo and Hellas), Firenze (against Fiorentina), Livorno, Parma and Milan (against Inter), the hosting stadium registered the best attendance of the season.
